James Gallagher is an American filmmaker, photographer, and artist.

As a photographer, Gallagher has had his images, journalist and editorial, in VICE, Vogue, The Times of London, Little Brown, The New Yorker, and The New York Times.

As a director, he’s made advertisements, music videos, plays, documentaries, narratives, short films, and a feature. New Partner written by Josh Margolin and Quinn Beswick which was a Vimeo Staff Pick and won Best Comedy at the New York Television Festival, Chloe and Zoe for Fullscreen, and My Boyfriend is a Robot for Freeform. He's also directed branded pieces for VICE, Vox, Ray-Ban, Volvo, Los Angeles Apparel, FCUK, and many more.

As writer/director, LOVE, a father and son story set in the world of competitive juniors tennis, (Will Hochman, Boris McGiver, Susan Sarandon) which premiered as a Vimeo Staff Pick and Short of the Week and PAULETTE, a documentary about a ballet teacher and former Radio City Music Hall Corps De Ballet soloist in the final year of her life which premiered in competition at the Big Sky Documentary Festival, on Vimeo as a Staff Pick, and at Short of the Week.

His documentary feature SONGS ABOUT FUCKING which follows Marc Rebillet on his Third Dose Tour premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and is set for release in 2025.
